January 20, 2008 is marked to be the saddest day in the history of AWN since its inception in early 1995 – 13 years of continuous services to the neediest women of Afghanistan.

AWN Main Office in Kabul got on fire due to unnoticed oil-heater fuel dropping on the floor that caused the whole building into fire instantly. The windy weather blew and expanded fire to the whole building very fast. Fire fighters and rescue team were simply unable to help.

The fire caused AWN to lose almost all its assets and properties costing to almost USD 105,000/- (One hundred Five Thousand Only)

On January 24, 2008 civil society arranged a meeting of individuals, NGOs and other civil society organizations. Meeting concluded that this is the time to co-operate with AWN and provide them a reasonable financial support to meet their problems.
