Hadiya Masieh

She was inspired to do this work when volunteering with the Muslim and Jewish arts and theatre group, MUJU in 2008. She was the PR liaison, and helped the charity to set up and launch its work at the prestigious Tricycle Theatre in London. She is also is on the board of "UK Friends of the Bereaved Forum", an internationally renowned charity dedicated to working for peace in Palestine and Israel. Hadiya is a trustee of her local Mosque in North London where she coordinates interfaith activities and has set up a Parent Toddler group, open to all in the community regardless of faith and belief.

From 2008-2010 Hadiya was Programme Director of SAVE U.K (Sisters Against Violent Extremism) which is part of a global network of women who are working against terror and towards peace building and conflict resolution.

In 2009 Hadiya was selected to be on the National Muslim Woman’s Advisory Group. This is a group of prominent Muslim women who have close links with Muslim communities. They are especially aware of the issues faced by Muslim women, from the work they are involved in, and use their experience and experitise to advice government.Hadiya Masieh is Project Manager of an art initiative, "Women ARTogther". From 1998-2007 she was part of Hizbut Tahrir a controversial radical Islamist group. When she broke from the group she took a completely different direction in her life. She realised that the effects of working with such a group were in fact detrimental to a young person’s life and their view of the world. Hadiya has felt compelled to speak out against the separatist notions of radical groups and has taken to working for a more cohesive and collaborative approach. Besides her interfaith work, this experience has lead her to work with other former politically radicalised Muslims at CENTRI. This is an organisation dedicated to addressing the issues of Islamist radicalisation amongst Muslim youth and also educating outside organisations of the nature of radical groups, their theology and their practices.
